Before & after your visit.

Before your visit.

These general guidelines apply before most treatments. Your provider may give you more specific instructions based on your service.

  • Arrive with clean skin whenever possible.
  • Avoid alcohol before injectable treatments.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanner before laser, peel, energy, and resurfacing treatments.
  • Pause retinoids, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide, and aggressive active skincare before skin, peel, laser, and energy treatments as directed.
  • Let your provider know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, prone to cold sores, taking blood thinners, recently vaccinated, feeling unwell, or have active irritation, infection, rash, or open skin.
  • Do not stop prescribed medications unless directed by your prescribing provider.

After your visit.

These general guidelines apply after many treatments. Follow your provider's specific instructions first.

  • Temporary redness, swelling, warmth, tenderness, dryness, flaking, or bruising may be expected depending on your treatment.
  • Avoid heat, sweating, saunas, hot tubs, pools, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise for the recommended period.
  • Use gentle skincare, moisturizer, and SPF until your skin has normalized.
  • Avoid picking, scrubbing, exfoliating, or prematurely removing flaking skin.
  • Avoid pressure, massage, or manipulation of injectable areas unless specifically instructed.
  • Wear daily SPF. Mineral SPF is preferred after laser, light, peel, energy, resurfacing, and microneedling treatments.
  • Contact BevelUp if anything feels severe, unusual, worsening, or concerning.

Treatment-specific instructions.

Injectables + Structure

Before

  • Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours prior.
  • Avoid aspirin, NSAIDs, fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric, ginkgo, garlic, and other blood-thinning supplements about 1 week prior unless medically necessary. Do not stop prescribed medications without your prescriber.
  • Avoid dental procedures, including cleanings, for 2 weeks before filler.
  • Notify your provider of dental work, illness, infection, cold sores, or recent or upcoming vaccinations.

After

  • Swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising are common and temporary.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours, and heat for 48–72 hours.
  • Avoid pressure or massage unless instructed. Sleep elevated the first night or two.
  • Neurotoxin: stay upright 4 hours, avoid facials and lasers about 7 days, results settle around 2 weeks.
  • Fillers and Radiesse: avoid dental work 2 weeks after; avoid facials, lasers, peels, and massage about 2 weeks; do not massage Radiesse unless directed; for lip filler, minimize pursing about 2 weeks.
  • Sculptra: follow the 5-5-5 rule, massaging the area 5 times daily, 5 minutes each, for 5 days; final results around 3–6 months.
  • PRF and Ariessence: mild swelling is expected; avoid NSAIDs after treatment and use acetaminophen.
Lasers + Energy

Before

  • Avoid sun, tanning beds, and self-tanner for 2–4 weeks prior (2-week minimum). A tan or sunburn significantly increases the risk of burns and pigment change.
  • Discontinue retinoids, exfoliants, and sensitizing products 5–7 days prior.
  • Arrive with clean, product-free skin.
  • Notify your provider of melasma, cold sores, pigment sensitivity, or photosensitizing medications.

After

  • Redness, warmth, swelling, and a sunburn-like feeling are expected.
  • Avoid exercise, sweating, saunas, pools, steam, and heat for 24–72 hours.
  • Do not pick or exfoliate treated skin. Wear mineral SPF 30+ daily; sun avoidance follows the device (BBL and Moxi 2 weeks strict, SkinTyte about 7 days, RF microneedling 3–7 days).
  • BBL: spots darken, then flake away over 5–14 days. Do not pick.
  • Moxi: sandpaper texture and tiny dark dots (MENDS) appear days 2–3 and slough off over 3–5 days. Do not scrub.
  • SkinTyte: brief swelling; avoid hot showers, saunas, and steam for 24–48 hours.
  • RF microneedling (Sylfirm and Vivace): pinpoint bleeding resolves within 24 hours; mild swelling for 24–72 hours; no makeup for 24 hours; resume retinoids and exfoliants after 7–10 days.
  • IPL and vascular laser: sunburn-like redness; vessels may darken before fading; possible temporary bruising; SPF 45+ until healed.
Skin Treatments

Before

  • Avoid sun, tanning beds, and self-tanner (3–7 days for facials and dermaplane; 7–14 days for peels, PRX, and microneedling).
  • Pause retinoids, acids, benzoyl peroxide, and aggressive actives (2–3 days for facials and dermaplane; 5–7 days for peels and microneedling; 15 days for PRX).
  • Avoid waxing or other exfoliation in the area 5–7 days prior.
  • Discontinue Accutane for at least 6 months prior unless approved by your provider.

After

  • Expect temporary redness, sensitivity, tightness, dryness, or light flaking.
  • Use gentle skincare, moisturizer, and SPF until normalized; avoid actives until cleared.
  • Avoid heat, sweating, saunas, hot tubs, and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours. Do not pick or scrub peeling skin; mineral SPF recommended.
  • Hydrafacial and facials: minimal downtime; makeup usually same day.
  • Dermaplane: pink or sensitive for 1–3 days; avoid sun 72 hours; resume routine after 24 hours.
  • Chemical peels: peeling begins around 36–48 hours and lasts 3–7 days; let it shed naturally; resume retinoids and acids after peeling resolves.
  • PRX: follow your prescribed PRX and WiQo homecare exactly; low-downtime; SPF 40+ daily; avoid exfoliation between treatments.
  • Microneedling: sunburn-like redness for 24–72 hours; no makeup for 24 hours; mineral SPF only; wait 2–4 weeks for retinoids and vitamin C; avoid NSAIDs and use acetaminophen.
Wellness + Scalp

Before

  • IV and wellness injections: eat a light meal and hydrate 2–3 hours beforehand; wear loose sleeves.
  • Hair Restoration PRF (scalp): stop NSAIDs, blood thinners, and anti-inflammatory supplements 5–7 days prior (acetaminophen is fine); hydrate well; arrive with a clean, product-free scalp.

After

  • IV and wellness injections: mild soreness or bruising may occur; no required downtime; continue hydrating. NAD+ is pushed slowly to minimize flushing or cramping.
  • Hair Restoration PRF (scalp): do not wash hair for about 4 hours (some protocols 24 hours), then use a gentle shampoo; avoid styling products, color, or heat styling for 48–72 hours; avoid vigorous exercise, sweating, sauna, and sun or heat for about 48 hours; resume minoxidil after about 3 days; avoid NSAIDs for 5–7 days afterward, as the inflammatory response drives the result.

Common questions.

What if my provider gave me different instructions?
Always follow your provider's specific instructions first. The guidelines on this page are general and may be adjusted for your skin and your service.
When will I see results?
It depends on the treatment. Some results are immediate, while others build over time (for example, neurotoxin settles around two weeks and Sculptra over three to six months). Your provider will give you a timeline.
When can I wear makeup again?
For most facials, often the same day. After microneedling, RF microneedling, peels, and energy treatments, wait at least 24 hours or as directed.
When can I restart my retinoids and active skincare?
Once your skin has normalized, following the pause schedule for your treatment. Your provider will confirm timing.
I get cold sores. What should I do?
Tell your provider before your appointment. A preventive antiviral may be prescribed for laser, energy, RF microneedling, or treatments near the lips. We do not treat over an active cold sore.

When to contact us.

Some sensitivity, redness, and swelling are expected after most treatments. Contact the office if you experience anything beyond the expected healing for your treatment, including:

  • Signs of infection — increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or fever
  • Severe or worsening pain, prolonged or asymmetric swelling, or blistering
  • An allergic reaction, hives, or spreading rash
  • Any symptom that feels unusual, worsening, or simply concerning to you

Filler or injectable emergency

After dermal filler (HA, Radiesse), a vascular occlusion is rare but urgent. Call us immediately or go to the ER if you notice:

  • Severe or disproportionate pain at or around the injection site
  • Skin blanching (white or pale patches) or dusky, mottled, blue-purple discoloration
  • Any vision changes — blurred or double vision, vision loss, or eye pain
  • Skin that becomes cold, or develops blisters or crusting

These signs can appear immediately or be delayed 12–24 hours. Early treatment is time-sensitive — do not wait.
